Ready, set, go! Sometimes we are determined to begin but we rather to set a starting date (next Monday, after Easter, during spring...) and it's easier to spend hours watching TV, an activity that generates zero muscles. The best moment to begin is right now, what are you waiting for? By sparing only 30 minutes a day for workout you'll take your body to the next level and you'll feel much better when you start seeing the results. If you have the budget to go to the gym, sign up today, but if you can't, it's no excuse to do nothing. Call up your friends and go jogging, join the local swiming pool or a sports club. Even better, put your favorite dance CD and get moving! Start small. The smaller the project the higher the probability to reach your objectives. If you decide radically to work out one hour everyday, by the end of the week you will be tired out and ready to drop it... again! Set a moderate workout schedule and also a realistic weight or size loss in a reasonable period of time and you will see the results. Better than becoming skinny, what's really attractive is becoming fit. If you are not sure on how to set your goals, ask your nutritionist, who can recommend a healthy diet and workout according to your own metabolism. Choose and activity that you'll enjoy. You are not forced to go to an aerobics class just because it worked for your best friend. If you are not having fun you'll most likely drop it. Search for an activity that suits you, there are hundreds of options. Choose between outdoor activities, sports, jogging, cycling or low impact alternatives like yoga or pilates. | ![]() |
Commit. Making the decision is a big step, but the real challeng is to keep it up. Use all the necessary tools to make sure you'll achieve success. Set up a calendar with reminders and discipline yourself to stick to the plan. If you can't make it one day is not the big deal, but if you fail 2 or 3 days it's very probable that you will drop it. It's been said that it takes 21 days to create a habit, and if you think about it, it's not that much. Once you get there no one can stop you.
Learn to save calories. You shouldn't deprive your self from eating the good stuff, otherwise in a couple of weeks you won't be able to take it anymore and you will crave on them big time. Give yourself a treat once in a while instead of daily and if you have a business dinner or a party where you know you'll have many courses, try to eat moderate one day before and one after to compensate. Avoid temptations by keeping healthy snacks such as fruits, granola bars or wheat crackers in your bag.
Reward yourself. If you followed your plan a whole week you definitely deserve a prize. It shouldn't be food or candy but instead something small that will remind you that you made it and will motivate you to continue. If you manage to stick to your program a whole month then reward yourself with a new blouse or jeans that will highlight your new figure.
Think positive. When you feel that it's becoming more difficult to continue, don't give up. Instead, think about all the wonderful things that working out and eating healthy give you. It gives you energy, it makes you feel good inside, it reduces stress, and the most important thing is that it keeps you in shape!
Make a diary. Write down everything that contributed to achieve your goal on a daily or weekly basis. Your hardest workouts, if you skipped donuts and had an apple, the day your could see that your hips were toning and so on. Once you've reached the finish line, you'll be able to read how you made it and you'll feel proud of yourself.
